People don’t buy what you do but why you do it. Understanding, defining and starting with your why increases community / whanau engagement and aligns to the decision making pathways.
How do we understand the practicalities of the decision; this at times gives an emotive response to the decision. There is no language capacity and communicates solely at an emotional level.
Providing a positive response of this nature is a key decision making factor, it has a greater share in the decision making process. It means that there is a greater opportunity for engagement. Any time you have weighed the factors, done the math and still decided “it just doesn’t feel right”, this is a natural response that can create a decision.
I listened last Friday to Gary giving a eulogy st Nigel's funeral and speaking of Rotary. In his eloquent way he described “service above self”. This attitude is merely a reflection as to why you are involved in Rotary.
As was expected, there was a very large turn-out to farewell Nigel on Friday October 19th at Eden Park. Rotary St. Johns was well represented by a large number of members and partners and Gary did us proud speaking at the funeral. We very much look forward to seeing Helen back at Rotary when the time is right.
A relatively small gathering on the 18th with only 24 members and two visitors including Past President Bruce Hancock - good to see you back in Auckland Bruce and thanks for coming along to our weekly meeting.
Another new member - Pagutharavin Manimaran, originally from India, was inducted at this meeting. Introduced to the club by Roger, Pagutharavin, who spoke briefly, acknowledged his delight in joining our club and shared with us that he is looking forward to serving the community via the opportunities presented via St. Johns Rotary. He will have plenty of opportunities to do this as he will join Miles Community Team.
Our Guest Speaker, Julie Chapman , CEO and co-founder of Kids Can, was introduced by Robyn to the members. KidsCan provides Kiwi kids in need with food, clothing and health items at school, so they can get into the classroom in a position to learn. KidsCan does this because they believe that education equals opportunity, and all children, regardless of their social economic background should have an equal chance.
KidsCan started 13 years ago with 40 schools on their books - today they have 732 schools and shortly that will increase to 742. They provide lunches to over 30,000 kiwi kids every day. They have a budget of $8m per anum, with 80% of this going straight back to the kids, (the remaining 20% covers actual operational and logistical costs). The required funding includes $350k from the Government with the balance coming via fund raising and donations.
How can you help? If you are interested in supporting this cause by donating, volunteering or partnering - checkout their website for details. https://www.kidscan.org.nz/

Have you seen? Have you got the Rotary Banners? Once again the Banners have taken on a life of their own and they are fending off all attempts to round them up?
Full amnesty in place - if you have, or have seen any of these recently we would love to hear from you! Many thanks.
Did you join Rotary to do good things in the community?
You can help or join in all projects (whatever the committee), just contact the committee director and/or project team leader. In most cases, you can include family and friends.
