What a delight to have Peter MCing our very special breakfast meeting.  For twenty years Peter has lead Yachting New Zealand.  The Rotary Club of St Johns established sailing scholarships to develop young sailing talent. What started out as a development programme for promising young New Zealand sailors has turned into a joint venture with Yachting New Zealand to expose yachting to a wider range of young people, many from low decile areas. Three members of the 2016 Rio NZ Olympic Yachting team are past winners of the Rotary of St Johns Youth Yachting Scholarship.

Peter also provided an update on the America’s Cup in Bermuda.  The Challengers begin racing in May 2017 on their one only 50 foot foiler multihulls.  Peter’s pick is either TNZ or GB that will race against the defender Oracle.  Finally Peter briefly mentioned the Volvo off shore round the world race and revealed that recent rule changes now includes two females on each boat instead of an all-female boat. This has its advantages as there is merit points with mixed racing teams.
