President's Message
A rousing and vibrant meeting with an induction and a presentation from Chris Sattler representing Auckland Seaplanes. Chris kindly offered the auction of a single seat for a scenic flight over Auckland; Sergeant Simon did a superb job with the auction ensuring a "record" Sergeant session.

Jan Hogg was inducted into membership and we look forward to her participation and contribution to the best Rotary Club in the Biosphere.

Please ensure you diary Thursday 10th May, breakfast meeting.  Because we missed our Combined Committee meeting evening, we will instead have our Combined Committee meetings as part of our normal breakfast meeting.

We have a busy couple of months coming up with great speakers so remember get involved and support the greatest Rotary Club in the Biosphere.

David Hartstone (Past-President)

Guest Speaker - Chris Sattler
Auckland Seaplanes
On Thursday we were very fortunate to have Chris Sattler present a potted history of seaplanes in the City of Sails and tell us about his company Auckland Seaplanes currently based at Wynyard Quarters. Chris is a fellow overseas and now local Rotarian and has been in New Zealand for 13 years with his family.  Over 4 years ago Chris set up Auckland Seaplanes but prior to that it took two years in planning to finally accomplish his dream.

Auckland Seaplanes provide a variety of scenic flights - from the most popular Rangitoto and cityscape to Great Barrier Island and everything in between. The exciting fly and dine excursions to Waiheke and Kawau Islands are a "one of a kind" along with island picnics, fly and stay, and charter options also available. Chris also has a second float and land plane based at Ardmore. If, due to Auckland’s notorious easterly winds the float plane is grounded, this amphibious plane can still provide the service around the Hauraki Gulf.

The Sergeant session was skillfully led by Simon Jones and included an auction to bid for a seaplane flight which with much competition was won by our President Elect, Alan Smith.
New Member Induction
A very warm welcome to new member Jan Hogg who was inducted at last week's meeting.

Jan's Rotary Buddy is Glen Stichbury and she will join the Environmental Committee.

Cambodia Habitat for Humanity Build
Further to my invitation to join the team to Cambodia, I am pleased to announce that a very generous sponsor has offered to financially support one or two members of St John’s Rotary to participate in the Cambodia Habitat for Humanity build in October. The recipients must have a genuine desire to participate but through lack of funding, cannot contemplate such a worthwhile adventure. Please contact Miles Cain to discuss further.

RYPEN feedback
Hey my name is Jacob de Graaf and last term I believe your rotary club sponsored me and 3 other Sacred heart boys to go to the Rypen Rotary Camp fo the weekend. On behalf of the Sacred Boys, we would like to send across our greatest thanks for letting us experience this adventure we undertook.
We all thoroughly enjoyed it and me personally would go back in a heart beat. We have made some new friends that will end up as life long friends and the memories we took out of the camp were amazing.
Once again thank you very much for letting us experience this.
Kind regards
Jacob de Graaf

Dear Sir Johnston Luen
Thank you very much for the opportunity for me to go to the Rotary RYPEN camp.  I would like to thank any other members that made this camp and the sponsorship possible.  I enjoyed the sling shot team work games, and all the fun beach games. I wished that my fellow friends from my school could have seen all of this and enjoyed this with all of us including the other campers form all over Auckland.
I would like to volunteer for any other Rotary programs or voluntary jobs, also maybe to become part of the Rotary program in Puke or near Pukekohe.
Yours in Rotary
