President's Message
It is certainly an honour and privilege to be asked to fulfil the role of President. After a changeover night last Thursday evening and the feedback since it is certainly a very positive feeling and I look forward to the next 12 months. The year ahead may involve some changes but that will be determined by the members and hence why it is important that you are there this coming Thursday to share your ideas.

Inspiration is an unusual word and it covers many categories. As seen, music for me is a source of inspiration and I was proud of Dave, Sapati, and Joshua presenting the Crescendo Trust of Aotearoa on changeover night. The skill and passion they displayed makes me feel good about the youth of today and what the country is going to look like.

Pam Clarke is going to be our facilitator on Thursday and I know that she is looking forward to hearing your own thoughts and ideas. This is very much an open process and no idea a silly one. It is like voting, participate and share in the direction and format of Rotary St Johns.

Kindest regards,

Allan

New Mobile Community Education Centre
Opened by Dr Sharad Paul
On Thursday 24 May a small contingent of St John’s members were delighted to attend the opening of a mobile community education centre which has been built and installed at Glen Taylor School. This amazing facility has been concepted, developed and personally funded by Dr Sharad Paul, one of our clubs Honorary Members.

Sharad has been running literacy programmes in schools for over a decade and personally visiting low-decile schools to teach creative-writing and also to build school libraries. He ran a bookstore  (Baci Lounge) and while this was in operation, he used the bookstore to support these ventures.

Rotary Facts - Did you know???
The current Definition of Rotary, as scripted by the Rotary International Board of Directors in 1976 reads as follows;

"Rotary is an organisation of business and professional persons united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build goodwill and peace in the world"
Multiple Sclerosis Society Auckland 2018 Street Appeal
Hi there Alex
My name is Charlotte Hoonhout, I've been brought in as an events assistant for this year's Multiple Sclerosis Society Street Appeal. I am reaching out to you to inquire about your interest in and availability to support us again this year as your Rotary has in the past. The 2018 Street Appeal will be on Friday, September 7th and Saturday, September 8th. We are still in the process acquiring sites for this year's appeal, but we are open and excited to hear any ideas that you may like to share with us or friends you would like to bring along to make this 2018 appeal the best yet! As you know, the street appeal raises valuable funds to facilitate multiple sclerosis research, education and support initiatives. But this would all be impossible without your support as volunteers to champion the appeal. I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind Regards, Charlotte
Anyone interested in volunteering to assist with this street appeal - please feel free to email Charlotte at: streetappealv1@gmail.com
