President's Message

Sometimes we get surprised by the passion of people towards an opportunity given them.

Last Thursday we met with Josephine Stonyer, a young medical student who worked on the Fiji Village Project. The club had sponsored Josephine to go on this trip and there was not one member in the room who would not realise that we contributed to her making a difference. She will make a fantastic doctor and we wish her all the very best in her journey.

David has worked hard alongside the Freightways team and as a result we have a full field for our Golf Tournament. Companies like:
  • Quadrent
  • Custom Fleet
  • Mainfreight
  • Section 6
  • Blujay
  • Vocus
  • Toyota (Closest to the Pin)
  • Hino
are just a few who have confirmed their involvement. 120 golfers all in support of a great charity KidsCan. We look forward to the day (March 18th) and if you can help out on the day please contact Leslie Harris. We now need auction prizes on the day so if you can assist please let David know.

See you all on Thursday!

Kindest regards,

Breakfast Meeting  - February 28th 2019
President Allan welcomed 29 members and two guests to our Breakfast Meeting last week February 28th.  Our Snap Chat this morning was delivered by Club Member Steel Gibson who briefed all members on the RYLA Story as we prepare to commence interviewing candidates for the 2019 Awards.  Steele shared with us his thoughts on how it is getting tougher to secure the number of quality candidates required, without lowering the standards set over many years and many very successful Awards.  Tom Street followed up supporting what Steele had said and provided us all with details on this years selection process for St Johns Rotary nominations.  See story below with more details and if you know of a potential candidate please contact Tom as soon as possible.

Our guest speaker today was Josephine Stonyer and as President Allan has stated above, if you ever wanted to see an example of how well our sponsorship dollars  can work - this was the presentation to see!!  Apart from attending our meeting and thanking us for our financial support, which went towards her being selected for the "Fiji Village Project", Josephine shared with us details of how successful the project was, how much she learned, how lucky we are and how much more support the Fijian medical services need.  Thank you Josephine for your wonderful presentation and our Club's best wishes are with you as you complete your degree and for your future career.

Time for a Smile
The police stop an old guy in questionable condition at 1 am.  “What are you doing out so late, sir?” asks the police officer.

“I’m going to a seminar on ‘The harmful effects of alcohol’,” replies the man.

“Are you pulling my leg or something?!“ says the police officer, "who would hold a seminar like that at this hour?!”

The man sighs, “my wife.”
