Wow wasn’t that a fantastic weekend of beautiful Spring weather? I certainly made the most of it by attacking my garden on Saturday and my Mums garden on Sunday. It was the perfect opportunity to put Gonza to work filling massive weed-bags with the reward of $$$ towards his ERKs fundraising. But what a depressing contrast in the weather today! A great evening to settle in with a cup of tea and cosy up for a read of our famous RCSJ Bulletin 😊
We had a really interesting speaker last week, Caroline McDowell from Kāinga Ora - Homes and Communities (refer report below).
This week we can look forward to hosting speakers Chloe Marshall and Coryn Laloli from the NZ Fire Service. See you all at Breakfast on Thursday.
Last week members were kept on their toes, with a change in meeting venue - to down the stairs at Winstone's Cafe. 25 members attended to hear guest speaker Caroline McDowell from Kāinga Ora - Homes and Communities speak about her work the Tamaki Regeneration Project.
Caroline had quite a lot more to share with us but not enough time to cover everything as she took time to respond to a number of questions from us. So, she emailed this link for us all to look at for a bit more info: https://youtu.be/DD1AzK4TS2s (just hover your mouse over the top and click).
Thank you Caroline for such an informative presentation.

Our esteemed and hard working "Club Services Director Allan Smith", has asked all members to take a moment to refresh their memories in regards to responsibilities associated with "Meeting Duties"
Duties are assigned (up to three weeks in advance), by our Club Services Director.
The schedule of duties will be published in each week's Bulletin, and each week following the publishing of the Bulletin, the Bulletin Editor will send an email reminder to all members who are scheduled to complete a duty at the next meeting.
If you have been assigned to undertake a duty, but are unable to do so, please note that it is your responsibility to find an alternative member to stand in on your behalf.
Once you have arranged the swap, please advise President Robyn and Allan S. of who will be undertaking your assigned duty.
Note: Do not ask the individual rostered as "Standby", to complete your duty on your behalf - "Standby" is a duty in its own right.
If you know in advance that you are going to be absent on a future meeting date, please advise Allan via email in advance so that he knows not to roster you for a duty that week.
Please do not advise the Club Services Director or the Bulletin Editor that you are unable to complete the duty with the expectation that they will find a replacement for you.
Any questions related to duty assignment or what a duty involves - please contact Allan. Many thanks to all for your cooperation in regards to above.
This month we remember the passing or two of our members - on October 9th Frank Pinson and October 14th, Nigel Robinson. Rest in Peace Gents. You are both fondly remembered by club members.
Are you curious to learn more about the history, beauty and development of the Glen Innes community?
There is an awesome opportunity to attend River Talks on the 25th of October (5pm @ 111 Apirana Ave). This is a talk run by 'Mad Ave', focused on the power of the arts and scientific research to stimulate locals, young people, businesses and political leaders to come together and explore how our public places foster connection. Megan Gallagher and several of the interactors will be going along and they would love it if you would join them. Meet them at meet at Ukutoia waharoa (artwork) at 111 Apirana Avenue, and entrance to Eastview Reserve in Glen Innes at 4.50pm.
The last week I had an amazing experience with Peter and Angela’s family in their really nice place in Pauanui, in the week I had so much fun with Peter, Angela and their grandchildren, we’ve been doing hiking, futbol, painting rocks, enjoyed playground, tag, playing Uno, walking the dogs and swimming; Also we went to Hot Water Beach - amazing and the very INCREDIBLE CATHEDRAL COVE, it’s my new favourite place in New Zealand. We were so lucky to have such great weather, so the last day Peter and Angela took me all around the pretty town Pauanui, and we climbed the mountain. Back in Auckland Robyn and Tony employed me to help with their garden and nana’s garden so I have more money fundraised for my ERKS project.
The club's Environmental Challenge is a nice easy one to remember this month, but one with significant benefit to the environment;
Stop using plastic bags, freely available in the Supermarket, for fruit and vegetables. Alternatively take home purchases loose, or use the recyclable gauze bags, as pictured below. These bags can be purchased at minimal cost at all major supermarkets.
Also avoid purchasing pre-packaged fruit and vegetables in plastic and cling wrap - again use the reuseable gauze bags for these items. Good luck with this challenge!
Did you join Rotary to do good things in the community?
You can help or join in all projects (whatever the committee), just contact the committee director and/or project team leader. In most cases, you can include family and friends.
