MENS SHED (3 months):

NEW PROJECT - call for volunteers
  • We have contracted with a company in Auckland called N2P Controls (see HERE) to assemble electrical controllers, similar to the one shown in the photograph HERE
  • Initially this is a 3 month contract, but it is likely that this will become ongoing work if we maintain quality, and if it works for our members. The work is sedentary, so will suit some members who would prefer to work sitting down at a workbench. Essentially we will be given a box of various parts ( circuit boards, terminal strips, cut wires, switches, glands, boxes, etc) and we will assemble these. This will suit members who have reasonable eyesight, good hand/eye coordination, and like detailed quality work.
  • If you would like to find out more please contact Nigel (021-160-0379) or Mal (021-577-970).  This might be an opportunity for new members who have not yet got fully involved in our activities, to follow their dreams ! We likely need a small team of 5-6 people, with maybe 3 working at any one time.

Book Fair - call of volunteers
  • After a two year absence the GABBS (Great Auckland Bargain Book Sale) is back on at Barfoot and Thompson Stadium – next to Selwyn College – in Kohimarama, Sat 5-Nov and Sun 6-Nov.
  • This was originally a fundraiser for the groups that use the stadium; mainly sports clubs. But in recent years the organisers have found it more and more difficult to find ‘volunteers’ to help, even though they are paid a share of the profits for their efforts, usually about $20 per hour.
  • So they are very grateful to any assistance that we can offer and particularly on the set up day; Fri 4 Nov from 9.30 am onwards.
  • This involves taking the books out of their banana boxes and arranging them neatly on the display tables. With a large team we should be able to get most of this done by early afternoon but any time you can offer – even just an hour or two - will be greatly appreciated. And will earn valuable funds for the shed!
  • After the set up on Friday there is also the opportunity to man the checkouts during the fair itself, in two hour slots as shown on the sheet at the Shed on the foyer table (see HERE)
  • You can volunteer alone or make up teams of 3 or 4 to go on each checkout.
  • Finally is the pack up when we clear all of the unsold books away (sadly into wheelie bins then into skips to be taken away by paper recycling trucks).
  • If you would like to volunteer your time please add your name into the sheet which will be posted on the main noticeboard at the shed. (see HERE) (If you can’t get there then please let our friendly office manager know and he will do it for you).
  • On arrival please look for your name badge and when leaving please make sure that your hours are recorded so that the shed gets paid.
